Intro
FIRE community buzzes: New project negotiations, preparing for the FIREweek 2010, updating the FIRE brochure, coming project reviews, events like TridentCom, Federation Workshop with GENI, TNC2010, etc, not forgetting the recent ones, like FIA Valencia that remains in our stories long to come. Most importantly, FIRE Community will grow bigger, as its new projects are kicking off the coming months.
FIREweek 2010
This year the FIREweek will be organized from 28 June -2 July 2010 in Barcelona. The main conference will be held on June 30, the agenda is under preparation, but it will combine familiar and newer elements. The theme for the event this year is “FIRI” Future Internet Research and Innovation. We have launched www-pages: http://fireweek2010.upf.edu/contact.htm. The 5th FIA in Valencia
Valencia collected several events to be held during the same week. The main conference was for the European Framework RTD Programme “From economical recovery to sustainability”. "Energy Efficient Building (EeB)" PPP, "Factories of the Future (FoF)" PPP, "Green Car (GC)" PPP and "Future Internet (FI)" PPP were launched on that week in Valencia. Side events within the week include meetings of E2B Association, EFFRA, the 4th Future Internet Assembly and other co-located events organized together with the European Commission.
Who would have thought that Future Internet and social networks were to be put in action before the Valencia week was over! It was also clearly understood and demonstrated that people are on the move to a large extent nowadays and that networks and networks of people make the difference.
The week got a very unusual ending as volcanic ashes from Iceland stopped hundreds of people flying back to their homes, also from Valencia. These extraordinary travel stories will be shared long to come, but strikingly the situation gave a strong rise to social networking as a measure to resolve global emergency situation. Aviation companies moved their best-updated communication to Facebook, people self-organised themselves for joint transportation, build travel groups and looked for vehicles through social networks. We all have stories to be told on our way back. One part of the FIRE community self-organized its way from Valencia to Södertälje by a bus trip of 62 hours! BIG thanks to our members in Luleå at CDT who organized the bus for those who had no other option. One must say that even though we have working networks and applications, capable users and experiments are needed that applications are easy to use! Good old paper map saved couple of hundred kilometers driving wrong direction again, because bus drivers were not familiar with GPS!

FIA Ghent Vote

ICT 2010

FIRE community aims to build a FIRE Village, where all accepted FIRE project exhibitions are welcome. FIRE has also proposed to organize two networking sessions. The evaluation process for exhibition and networking session is going on.
